UNSW attracts the highest median Australian tertiary admissions rank in Australian, and sets the highest combined ATAR cut-offs out of any Australian university.it was ranked among the top 50 universities in the world in the 2015-16 QS world university rankings.the university is particularly strong in engineering and technology, commerce and economics,and law the 2015 QS world  university rankings by subject ranked  to be 12th in the world for accounting and finance,15th for law,and 21st in engineering and technology .produced more millionaires, and its graduate hold more chief executive positions of 200 listed companies,than any other university in Australia.





the university first director was The university's first director was Arthur Denning (1949–1952), who made important contributions to founding the university. In 1953, he was replaced by Philip Baxter, who continued as vice-chancellor when this position's title was changed in 1955.[15] Baxter's dynamic, if authoritarian, management was central to the university's first 20 years. His visionary, but at times controversial, energies saw the university grow from a handful to 15,000 students by 1968.[16] He also pioneered new scientific and technological disciplines despite the criticism of traditionalists.[citation needed] Staff recruited both locally and overseas, soon established a wide international reputation.[citation needed] The new vice-chancellor, Rupert Myers (1969–1981), brought consolidation and an urbane management style to a period of expanding student numbers, demand for change in university style and challenges of student unrest.





the lion and the four stars of the southern cross on the st George"s cross have reference to the state of new south wales which established the university the open book with across its pages is a reminder of its purpose.the placement ofscientia on the book was inspired by this appearance on the arms of the imperial college of science, technology and medicineformed in 1907. beneath the shield is the motto manu et mente (with hand and mind) which was the motto of the Sydney technical college from which the university developed.

Monash is one of two Australian universities to be ranked in the ecol des mines de pairs ranking on the basis of the number of alumni listed among in the 500 largest worldwide companies,with monash  producing. monash is in the top 20%in teaching top 10% in international outlook top  20% in industry income and top 10% in research in the world in 2016






    the monash university Malaysia campus opened in 1998 in bandar sunway, selangor, Malaysia. the sunway campus offers various undergraduate degrees through its faculties of medicine and health sciences,engineering,information technology,business,and arts and sciences.it is currently home to almost 4,000 students.the new purpose-built campus opened in 2007,providing a high-tech home for monash in Malaysia. in addition to a wide range of undergraduate degrees,the campus also offers both postgraduate masters and PhD programs.its degrees in medicine and surgery are the first medical degrees outside Australia and new Zealand to be accredited by the Australian medical council.








    one of monash newest campuses berwick campus was built on the old Casey airfield in the south eastern growth corridor of Victoria,Australia, the town of berwick has experienced an influx of people and  development in recent times,which includes the new campus of monash university with a the third building in march 2004.it is situated on a 55-hectare site in the city of Casey,one of the three fastest growing municipalities in Australia. monash announced its closure of the campus to staff and students on 7 march 2016.it announced that the campus would close by 2018 and the vice-chancellor cited the lack of enrollments as the driving factor.

    the university of Melbourne was established by Hugh childers the auditor-general and finance minister in this first budget speech on 4 November 1852,who set aside a sum of 10,000 for the establishment of a university.the university was established by act of incorporation on 22 January 1853,with power to confer degrees in arts.medicine,laws and music.the act provided for an annual endowment of 9,000 while a special grant of 20,000 was made for buildings that year.the foundation stone was laid on 3 July 1854,and on the same day the foundation stone for the state library classes commenced in 1855 with three professors and sixteen students,of this body of students,only four graduated the original buildings were officially opened by the lieutenant governor of the colony of Victoria Charles hotham on 3 October 1855.the first chancellor Redmond Barry held the position until his death in 1880.

    governance of the university is grounded in an act of parliament,the university of Melbourne act 2009.the peak governing body is the council the key responsibilities of which include appointing the vice chancellor and principal,approving the strategic direction and annual budget,establishing operational polices and procedures and overseeing academic and commercial activities as well as risk management .the chair of he council is the chancellor.the academic board,oversees learning teaching and research activities and provides advice to the council on these matters.the committee of convocation represents graduate and its members are elected in proportion to the number of graduate in each faculty.




    Melbourne comprises 11 separate academic units and is associated with numerous institutes and research centers,including thewalter and Eliza hall institute of medical research,flora institute of neuroscience and mental health,the Melbourne institute of applied economic and social research and the grattan institute. Amongst Melbourne 15 graduate schools the Melbourne business school,the Melbourne law school and the Melbourne medical school are particularly well regarded.

    the university was established via the passage of the university of Sydney act,on 24 September 1850 and was assented on 1 October 1850 by sir Charles Fitzroy years later,the university was inaugurated on 11 October 1852 in the big schoolroom of what is now Sydney grammar school.the first principal was john woolley,the first professor of chemistry and experimental physics was john Smithson 27 February 1858 the university received is charter from queen Victoria,giving degrees conferred by the university ran and recognition equal to those given by universities in the united kingdom.by 1859,the university had moved to its current site in the Sydney suburb of camperdown.





    in 2001,the university of Sydney chancellor,dame leonine Kramer,was forced to resign by the university governing body.in 2003 nick greener, a former premier of new south wales,resigned from his position as chair of the university graduate school of management because of academic protests againts hi simultaneous chairmanship of British american tobacco.subsequently,his wife,Kathryn Greiner, resigned in protest from the two positions she held at the university as chair of the Sydney peace foundation and a member of the executive council of the research institute for Asia and the pacific.in 2005,the public service association of new south wales and the community and public sector union were in dispute with the university over a proposal to privatise security at the main campus .





    Action initiated by Spence to improve the financial sustainability of the university has alienated some students and staff. in 2012,Spence led efforts to cut the university expenditure to address the financial impact of a slowdown in international students enrolments across Australia. this included redundancies of a number of university staff and faculty,though some at the university argued that the institution should cut back on building programs instead.critics argue the push for savings has been driven by managerial incompetence and indifference,fuelling industrial action during a round of enterprise bargaining in 2013 that also reflected widespread concerns about funding for higher education.


    concerns about public funding for higher education were reflected again in 2014 following the federal governments proposal deregulate student fees.the university held a wide-ranging consultation process,which included a town hall meeting at the university great hall 25 august 2014,where an audience of students,staff and alumin expressed deep concern about the governments plans and called on university leadership  to lobby again the proposals.spence took a leading position among australian vice-chancellors in repeatedly calling throughout 2014. for any change funding to not undermine equitable access to university while arguing for free deregulation to raise course costs for the majority of higher education students.

    the Australian national university is a national research university located in Canberra,the capital of Australian main campus in Acton encompasses seven teaching and research colleges,in addition to several national institutes.founded in 1946,it is the only university to have been created by the parliament of Australia. Originally a postgraduate research university,ANU commenced undergraduate teaching in 1960 when it integrated the Canberra university college,which had been established in 1929 as a campus of the university of Melbourne enrolls 10,052 undergraduate and 10,840 postgraduate students and employs 3,753 staff. the university's endowment stood at A billion in 2012.





    the ANU college of engineering and computer science is divided into two research schools,which study a range of engineering and computer science topics respectively. ANU is home to the national computational infrastructure national facility and was a co-founder of NICTA,the chief information and communications technology research center in Australia. Research groups in ANU college of engineering and computer science include algorithms and data applied signal processing,artificial intelligence,center for sustainable energy systems,computer system,computer vision and robotics,data -intensive computing,information and human centered computing,logic computation ,materials and manufacturing,semiconductor and solar cells, software intensive systems engineering,solar thermal group ,system and control.





    the ANU college of physical mathematical sciences comprises the research schools of astronomy astrophysics,chemistry,earth sciences,mathematical sciences andphysics. under the direction of mark Oliphant,nuclear physics was one the university most notable early research priorities,leading to the construction  of a 500 megajoulehomopolar generator and a 7.7 megaelectronvolts cyclotron in the 1950.these devices,were to be used as part of a 10.6 gigaelectronvolt synchronous particle accelerator that was never completed,however they remained in use for other research purposes. ANU has been home to eight particle accelerators over the years and operates the 14UD and LINAS accelerators. professor brain Schmidt received the 2011 Nobel prize for physics for his work on the accelerating expansion of universe. 





    the main campus of  ANU extends across the Canberra suburb of Acton,which consists of 358 acres of mostly parkland with university buildings landscaped within. ANU  is roughly bisected by Sullivan creek part of the Murray darling basin,and is bordered by  the native bush land of black mountain,lake barley griffin,the suburb of turner and the Canberra central business district.many university sites are of historical significance dating from the establishment of the national capital,with over 40 buildings recognized by the commonwealth heritage list and several others on local lists.
